"Extreme" Felix Baumgartner, takes delivery of his new KTM

Felix Baumgartner visits KTM. The world's most famous base jumper inspected his new 990 Super Duke R at the Mattighofen factory.

Many people can claim to live life to the full, but only one can soar like a bird and then land firmly on his own two feet: Felix Baumgartner. The 40-year-old from Salzburg is the world's most daring base jumper. He was the first person to cross the entire English Channel in freefall, he jumped from the statue of Christ in Rio de Janeiro and he leapt off the Taipei 101 skyscraper in Taipei. His jumps, death-defying deeds and landing adventures could easily fill several volumes of books.

It's easy to imagine that this man with the 'Born to fly' underarm tattoo and muscular, well-build body earns his living as a professional flyer for Red Bull. But what do extraordinary people like Felix do in their spare time?

16/12/2009, Mattighofen. In the Red Bull factory, the KTM MX Factory Team mechanics are working on the latest factory cross bikes when the the loud sound of a helicopter suddenly breaks the silence of concentration. KTM motorsport director Pit Beirer only just has time to clear the car park and send out a mechanic into the icy snow drifts to act as a living beacon when an elegant silver helicopter lands in the middle of the yard just moments later.

Felix Baumgartner, the master jumper, quickly descends from the helicopter with a clear and focussed goal: to pick up his new motorcycle! Orange frame, powerful forms, extreme dynamics - what could be more suitable for Felix Baumgartner than a KTM 990 Superbike R? Even if Felix doesn't find a spectacular location from which he can jump in 2010, the Superduke R will certainly ensure that he won't get bored on solid ground.
