2010 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals count down

Australia’s best Motocross riders will be aiming to make a break for it on Sunday 27 June, when the 2010 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals rolls into Albury Wodonga.

Jay Marmont

With only three rounds to go, riders will be battling it out for remaining Championship points in a bid to improve their overall standing as the Series nears the end of what has been a massive year.

In the Pro Opens class reigning Champ and CDR Rockstar Yamaha Team rider Jay Marmont will come into the round with the red leader plates, however, with only 13 points separating him from Bourke local and JDR Motorex KTM’s Tye Simmonds, he’ll have to work hard if he’s going to make it three Championships in a row.

Marmont is not the only one facing pressure, with Simmonds sitting merely three points ahead of third placed Honda privateer, Dean Ferris.

Ferris is currently in Europe, banging bars with some of the World’s best riders and looks set to make life difficult for the front runners when he returns.

Also keen to make life harder for the top riders is UK import, Kawasaki Racing Team’s Billy Mackenzie, who has been clocking up some serious bike time and posting outstanding results since injuring his wrist in the second round.

American rider PJ Larsen has amassed an impressive 55 point lead for the JDR Motorex KTM Team in the Pro Lites class in the lead up to the sixth round, while in the Under 19’s, MX Rad Coastal KTM’s Josh Cachia sits 33 points clear of Yamaha Junior Development Team rider Ross Beaton.

Albury Wodonga Motorcycle Club President, Craig Windham said that preparations at the club were going well and if the weather holds out it will be an awesome day of racing!

“Everything is going really well,” Windham said.

“Track preparation is coming along nicely and we’ve made a few small changes including some work on drainage.

“Hopefully the weather will be good for us, and we’re hoping to get a big crowd out for such an awesome event.

“The club is pulling together very well: we learnt a lot from last year - if we can run the event as well as we did then, we’ll be very happy and it’s what we’re striving for.”
