Triumph Confirms 2011 World Supersport Commitments

Triumph BE1 Racing will enter the 2011 Supersport World Championship with an exciting line-up of British star Chaz Davies and all-action Italian rider Luca Scassa racing the factory Daytona 675s.

Davies, 23, stays with the squad for his second full season on the three-cylinder Triumph. The British racer currently lies fourth in the 2010 Supersport World Championship standings, having finished on the podium three times this season.

Meanwhile former Italian supersport champion Scassa, known to his many fans as 'The Rocker' will be making his debut in the middleweight class with Triumph. The 27-year-old from Arezzo is a popular figure in the international paddock and has been one of the sensations of this year's world superbike campaign, scoring several impressive qualifying performances and a string of top 10 finishes on a privately entered Ducati.

"I'm really happy to be doing a second year with Triumph and BE1 Racing", commented Davies. "It's a long time since I have been in that situation and I really want to take advantage of all the good work that we've done this year. I enjoy working with this team and we have plans to further develop the Daytona 675. We have shown this year that we can run at the front and we can only move forward in 2011".

Scassa added: "I have been riding 1000cc bikes in recent years but I have experience of supersport racing from the Italian championship. I am looking forward to riding the Daytona 675. This will be my first experience of a three cylinder bike and I think that the extra torque will prove advantageous at some tracks. BE1 Racing has ambitions to be at the very top and one of my motivations for signing is that I can see the desire to win in the eyes of Giuliano Rovelli (owner of BE1 Racing). It is important for me to be racing with a factory team again and I can see the great progress that Triumph has made in the championship over the past few years".

Owner Giuliano Rovelli said: "The renewal of Chaz's contract is the logical result of the excellent job he has done throughout the season. As well as getting onto the podium, Chaz has proved that he can take advantage of every situation thanks to the serenity with which he tackles his job and his exceptional poker of concentration. I'm convinced that as he is still young he's still got a lot of time to improve. Luca Scassa is the big news for 2011, he has impressed me for the determination he takes onto the track. He and Chaz will make up a strong pairing".

In addition to running Triumph's official entry in the Supersport World Championship, BE1 Racing will again run the ParkinGO European Series, a monomarque championship run at selected Superbike World Championship rounds using Triumph machinery.

Triumph - WSS '10 Round 11 | Nurburgring, Day 1

David Salom - Triumph

Spaniard David Salom set the second fastest time to score a very good result in the opening day of the Supersport round held at Nurburgring, establishing himself as one of the possible contenders for the race. Despite the good performance, Salom is convinced he can improve and is confident for tomorrow. Frenchman Matthieu Lagrive put in a positive performance to post the ninth quickest time of the day and expectations are high for him as well. On the other hand, Chaz Davies was slowed down by a crash without consequences, but was able to finish eleventh at his debut on the German track, while Iannuzzo focused on finding a good setup which should enable him to find a good feeling with the bike in qualifying tomorrow.

DAVID SALOM | Triumph Daytona 675 | 2nd in 1'59.277 : "Everything went smoothly today, but I still have to change the way I approach the last section of the track, where I lose all the time to Sofuoglu. I'm confident I can do just as well tomorrow, when I'll try to be more effective in the last few corners".

MATTHIEU LAGRIVE | Triumph Daytona 675 | 9th in 2'00.535 : "I posted a good time, but I'm not satisfied with the setup yet. I think I can do much better when I have full confidence on the setup. We're on the right path nonetheless and hopefully will qualify in the first two rows".

CHAZ DAVIES | Triumph Daytona 675 | 11th in 2'01.073 : "It's my first time at Nurburgring, so I focused on learning the track and on finding a good base setup. By the end of the session we didn't make the right choice for the fork and so we must make a big step forward tomorrow".

VITTORIO IANNUZZO | Triumph Daytona 675 | 15th in 2'01.598 : "I approached practice in a different way and managed to do a pretty good job. However, I still have some issues on the back end when exiting the corner and have to work on which trajectory to take in the first corner. My goal is to do well in warm up and get a good starting position in qualifying practice”.

WSS '10 Round 3 | Valencia, day 1

Team ParkinGO Triumph BE1 Racing's goal for tomorrow is qualifying in the front row. The result could have been obtained today but David Salom finished fifth, just two hundreds of a second off of fourth place. His teammate Chaz Davies finished just behind him to take sixth.

Chaz Davies

Jason Di Salvo had to settle for ninth place due to some drop in performance from the engine in the most important phase of the session, while Matthieu Lagrive is still trying to improve his feeling with the bike.

DAVID SALOM | Triumph Daytona 675 | 5th in 1'36.792 : "We started working on the fork early in the morning in order to improve the feeling when entering the corner. We reached a very good setup, which allowed me to go faster by almost a second compared to the test. We can however improve and hopefully will qualify in the front row tomorrow".

CHAZ DAVIES | Triumph Daytona 675 | 6th in 1'36.933 : "I have the same goal as my teammate: the front row. We're almost there setup-wise, hopefully will get a better feeling when entering the corner. Although this is my first race at Valencia, I liked the track from the first laps".

JASON DI SALVO | Triumph Daytona 675 | 9th in 1'37.658 : "I know I could've done better if it wasn't for that engine issue. We've made however some progress suspension-wise and now the bike fits my riding style. I hope to redeem myself tomorrow".

MATTHIEU LAGRIVE | Triumph Daytona 675 | 13th in 1'38.453 : "My feeling with the bike keeps getting better lap after lap. I just hope to catch up with the others and start some racing".

WSS '10 Round 2 | Portimao, day 1

All Triumph BE1 Racing riders displayed great performances in day 1 of the Portuguese World Supersport round as Chaz Davies took the front provisional row, feverish David Salom qualified in the second row, American Di Salvo took ninth place while newcomer Lagrive finished thirteenth . All in all good results at the prospect of tomorrow's session, when the starting grid will be determined.

CHAZ DAVIES | Triumph Daytona 675 | 4th in 1'46.281 : "My feeling with the bike is better day after day. I posted a great time but I think I can do better than this. We'll try out some new solutions tomorrow and hopefully will qualify in the front row again in the afternoon".

DAVID SALOM | Triumph Daytona 675 | 8th in 1'46.760 : "I'm happy with today's result, especially because I wasn't in my top physical condition. I raced today thanks to the mobile clinic where they managed to lower my fever to 38. I hope I'll be feeling better tomorrow and hopefully improve my starting position".

JASON DI SALVO | Triumph Daytona 675 | 9th 1'46.779 : "I have a better feeling with the bike now and so it was more like a test because I didn't really force myself for the speed. However, I know I can do better and hopefully will improve the eighth place I took in Australia".

MATTHIEU LAGRIVE | Triumph Daytona 675 | 13th in 1'47.663 : "I tried to get a good feeling with the bike and I have to say that I like it. I didn't go for the speed, I focused on the machine and tried to catch up with the others because I haven't been racing since the last Superbike round of 2009 and so I think this a positive result for me".

WSS '10 Round 1 | Phillip Island, day 1

Team ParkinGO Triumph BE1 Racing kicked off the season with two practice sessions which determined the provisional starting grid of round 1 of World Supersport. The team did improve considerably compared to this week's testing as Chaz Davies set the sixth fastest time, just three tenths behind the pole position. Sebastien Charpentier finished ninth and adapted the bike to his riding style while Jason Di Salvo found a better feeling with the track improving his position compared to the test. The only bad piece of news was a banal failure of communication between the Spanish and international Federations due to an erroneus license number which prevented David Salom from racing today.

The bike livery that the "Four Musketeers" will be racing on this season was also unveiled on this occasion.

CHAZ DAVIES | Triumph Daytona 675 | 6th in 1'34.939: "I improved my performance by over half a second compared to the test in the third section but I can do better. We're trying to get more grip in that section of the track and hopefully finish in row one".

SEBASTIEN CHARPENTIER | Triumph Daytona 675 | 9th in 1'36.039: "I tried out different cycle part solutions today as well. I'm starting to know the bike better. I think I'm on the right path and I'm confident I can further improve tomorrow".

JASON DI SALVO | Triumph Daytona 675 | 10th in 1'36.208: "I did very well in the first lap right away and finished seventh. We then tried to push a little bit more but that setup solution didn't help us improve although we made a tremendous amount of progress since the test. My goal for tomorrow is to get a better starting position".
