HART Celebrates Birthday With Two New Honda VTR Winners

VTR Winner Stephen Standley

In celebration of the first birthday of HARTSomerton, the rider training organisation recently gave away brand new Honda VTR250s to two luck winners who completed courses during April, May or June 2010.

One winner was from Eltham in Victoria, and the other from Brisbane.

10 August 2010 - It may have been HART Somerton's birthday celebration, but two lucky students were the ones who got the biggest present of all.

HART gave away brand new Honda VTR250s to Ryan Dalton of Brisbane and Stephen Standley of Eltham, Victoria who both completed courses during April, May or June 2010.

Ryan - a 21 year old Air-Conditioning Mechanic from Brisbane - participated in both the 1 and 2 day Training and Assessment Courses.

"My first day at HART was the first time I had ridden a motorbike. I wanted to learn because it seemed like a fun, efficient way of travelling," Ryan said.

"The course was practical and catered for my needs and the instructors where pleasant, helpful and explained everything clearly."

"To be honest, when I first got the phone call to say I'd won the VTR, I thought someone was playing a joke on me! I would like to thank HART for the bike and for the training. It was a pleasure to be able to get my licence through them, and the trainers and facilities were fantastic."

Stephen Standley, a 51 year-old Project Engineer, completed a Learner Permit and Licence course at Somerton in Melbourne's north after having competed on enduro bikes in the UK military.

"I didn't have a full motorbike licence back in the UK so when I arrived in Australia 18 months ago, I wanted to take full advantage of the number of good weather days."

"I couldn't believe I had won a brand new bike. I haven't won anything like this in my life. It was a real surprise! I hope to upgrade to a Honda VFR1200F once I finish my restrictions, and will be completing HART's Intermediate and Advanced I and II courses once that happens."

HART has long been considered the preeminent provider of rider training and licensing in Australia. Highly qualified instructors deliver state-of-the-art teaching methods to over 19,000 riders each year from the Victorian, Queensland and New South Wales locations.

They are the only rider training company in Australia to use rider simulators to improve Hazard Perception. HART is fully owned and run by Honda Australia who, apart from being a subsidiary of the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer, is also one of the world's largest trainers of motorcyclists.

Learn to ride at HART, WIN A NEW BIKE!

To celebrate their first birthday at the Somerton location, HART will give away a brand new Honda VTR250 to two lucky riders who complete their learner or licence course in Melbourne or in Brisbane during April, May or June 2010.

To make sure every student has the best chance of getting their permit or licence on the day, HART is also offering free same day retests (in Melbourne only) for those participants who may get nervous during their initial attempt at the test.

The lucky winners of the VTR250s will be riding away with a motorcycle powered by a 90 degree, liquid-cooled V-twin engine, offering fuel injection for an exceptionally smooth, quick throttle response. The VTR250 also receives a top score for fuel efficiency, making the VTR an attractive prospect for weekend tours as well as weekday commuting.

Its low-vibration operation ensures confident performance at higher speeds whilst the feeling of stability is enhanced by a low, comfortable seat that creates a confident riding position for riders of all proportions and skill levels.

The simplicity of the VTR styling offers a dynamic, contemporary edge. The unique truss frame and precisely angled chassis give it a genuinely sporty attitude, while the sculpted fuel tank, side covers and rear fender give it a smart, urban appeal.

HART SAYS HAPPY BIRTHDAY WITH 20% OFF FOR LEARNERS

Honda Australia Rider Training (HART) are celebrating their first birthday at the Somerton Centre in Melbourne’s north, and to spread the cheer anyone who enrols in a Motorcycle Learner’s Permit course during the month of March will receive 20% off.

HART offers one day and two day Learner Permit courses and testing. The two day course is designed for students who have never ridden before, whilst the one day course requires that students have previously ridden.

Riders who have already passed their “L’s” and are attempting their licence course also now have the opportunity to retest for free on the same day should they happen to not pass the first time.

"The free retest is proving to be very popular,” said HART Victoria Manager, Grant Carr.

“Some people make simple mistakes during tests; it’s easy to do, so having the ability to undertake the test again on the same day is very handy for people who don’t want to have to come back at another time.”

Free retests are also now available at the HART Kilsyth centre in Melbourne’s east.

To find out more about course availability and pricing, call (03) 9270 1377.

HART has long been considered the preeminent provider of rider training and licensing in Australia. Highly qualified instructors deliver state-of-the-art teaching methods to over 17,000 riders each year nationally.

HART is fully owned and run by Honda Australia who, apart from being a subsidiary of the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer, is also one of the world’s largest trainers of motorcyclists.

Monash Uni And Hart Calling All Returning Riders

If you have recently returned to motorcycle riding after a break of five years or more and would like to make a contribution to the study of motorcycle safety, then Monash University and HART want to hear from you.

The Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC) and Honda Australia Rider Training (HART) are seeking “returning riders” to participate in a study which aims to help identify the types of training, licensing and countermeasures that would be most beneficial for reducing crash involvement.

The one hour study involves an on-road ride, a simulator ride and an on-range ride, and is being funded by the TAC’s compulsory motorcycle registration levy. Participants who qualify will be reimbursed $70 for their time.

A returning rider is someone who:
* Used to ride and covered no less than 20,000 kms in those years
* Stopped riding for a period of five years or more
* Returned to riding in the past six months and ridden between 500 and 1000 kms in that period.

Participants must:
* wear appropriate protective clothing during the riding segments
* have their own registered and roadworthy motorcycle
* hold a full motorcycle licence

According to MUARC’s Christine Mulvhill, the number of older riders killed and seriously injured in crashes has increased in recent years while the number of younger rider fatalities and serious injuries has decreased.

“We are conducting the research in order to contribute to a larger study that aims to find out more about the training needs and contributing factors for returning riders who are involved in crashes, and to make comparisons between new and experienced riders.”

“Previous research has suggested that the pattern of riding by returning riders may be contributing to the changing crash trend. What we mean by that is returning riders commonly ride motorcycles with a high engine capacity (e.g. over 750cc) and own a motorcycle that is of a larger capacity than they did in the past.”

“In addition, research has shown that compared to new and continuing riders, returning riders are more likely to ride in rural areas, more likely to use their motorcycles for touring/weekend riding, and less likely to undertake training.”

“Ultimately we hope that the findings of these studies will inform new strategies and programs aimed at significantly reducing these statistics.”

Anyone who is interested in participating and meets the criteria should contact HART on (03) 9270 1377
