Yamaha Racing Revved Up For Super X

Luke Styke - Yamaha

Yamaha's factory supported teams are primed and ready for action as round one of the Australasian Super X Championship gets under way this weekend at Energy Australia Stadium in Newcastle.

The seven round series also takes in Canberra, Launceston, Auckland, Dunedin, Sydney and Brisbane and is the highest profile motorcycle series in Australia featuring a list of Australian and international riders.

CDR ROCKSTAR YAMAHA
Jay Marmont is back to spearhead Yamaha's quest for the Pro Open championship on board his YZ450F. Fresh off his third successive Australian Motocross Championship and some inspired rides representing his country at the Motocross of Nations in the US, Marmont is fired up and ready to go for Super X.

"I always look forward to racing supercross. The night time events, the big crowds and atmosphere make it the best events to race in. I also feel we are well prepared as the team and I have done some extensive testing while in the US and even more in the week leading up to the opening round."

"It starts on Saturday and I hope we have a huge crowd turn out for what looks to be a great championship," Marmont concludes.

Joining Marmont will be a couple of guest riders for the CDR Rockstar Yamaha team. With Cheyne Boyd sidelined with an ankle injury, Craig Dack has opened up the spot for Ross Beaton, runner up in the Under 19 MX Nationals, to keep the seat warm until Boyd is back to full strength and ready to resume racing.

The opening three rounds will also see CDR Rockstar Yamaha host US import Justin Brayton. Brayton, currently ranked five in the AMA SX Championships, will make his Australian debut this weekend at Newcastle.

"We look forward to hosting both Ross and Justin for the opening three rounds of Super X," says team owner Craig Dack. "We are excited to give Ross this opportunity and reward him for a successful motocross campaign while working with Justin is just another example of how Yamaha teams around the world work together for the benefit of the rider and the company," he concludes.

SERCO YAMAHA
The dynamic duo of Kirk Gibbs and Ford Dale are bound for big things as they enter the 2010 Super X Championship. Both riders have come from a successful Australian MX Nationals Championship where they placed two and three respectively and are fully fit and ready to go.

Gibbs was a consistent top five rider in last years' championship but has since picked up his supercross skills and is looking for a much better result in his 2011 campaign.

"I have worked hard with the team to get my bike as good as possible and do the training needed to be successful at Super X. I feel we have made the right improvements to the bike and my riding is a step above last year so I expect to do well and look forward reaching my goals this year," Gibbs said.

For Ford Dale, it is a welcome return to Super X as he missed a lot of last years' series with injury. But now 100% fit and ready to race, Dale is also expected to be a front runner in the championship wants to reward himself and the Serco Yamaha team with a championship.

"Right after motocross, I had some surgery on my wrist and it feels 100% now. I have been in full training for over a month and have done more riding and practicing for this series than I have for a long time. I just want to start racing," Dale enthuses.

GYTR ROCKSTAR YAMAHA
For the first time since this team began in 2007 Yamaha's development program will now take in the full series of Super X. With Ross Beaton taking the guest ride at CDR, the pairing of Luke Styke and Harley Quinlan will line up in the Pro Lites division and will continue to learn the ropes of racing supercross in a well supported and pro active environment.

"We have just finished a few days of testing with the riders in Queensland and I am impressed by their speed and commitment, says head technician Darren Thompson. "Luke proved himself to be a contender in the few rounds he did last year and I see no reason why he can't do that for a full championship in 2011, while Harley has picked up the game quickly and both riders may surprise a few people as the championship wears on," Thompson finishes.

All Yamaha riders will be making a special Super X dealer appearance at Fraser's Motorcycles, 137 Lambton Road, Broadmeadow on Saturday October 16 between 10 and 11am. There will be a range of giveaways, posters and a heap of Super X deals in store.

American Motorcyclist Association congratulates AMA Team USA on 21st victory at Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations

American Motorcyclist Association

AMA Team USA has once again earned the title of World's Greatest Motocross Nation. Thanks to a come-from-behind performance from riders Ryan Dungey, Andrew Short and Trey Canard, the team stood victorious at the 2010 Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations at Thunder Valley in Lakewood, Colo., Sept. 25-26.

Heading into the third combined moto, which featured MX1- and Open-class riders Dungey and Short, AMA Team USA was second in points behind Germany. The U.S. riders, however, put on a dominating performance, finishing the moto 1-2 to snatch the win from the German team, which fell to third in the final points. The Belgium team of Steve Ramon, Jeremy Van Horebeek and Clement Desalle moved up to take second.

"As AMA Team USA knows more than any other, victory at the Motocross of Nations is always sweet," said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman. "However, it's just a bit sweeter when that win comes on home soil. The AMA congratulates riders Ryan Dungey, Andrew Short and Trey Canard, and team manager Roger DeCoster, for another stellar athletic, coaching and tuning performance on the world stage."

AMA Team USA has now won the Motocross of Nations an unprecedented 21st time.

The Motocross of Nations features three-rider teams on a range of motocross machinery. In the 2010 event, Dungey raced the MX1 class, which features 450cc four-stroke machinery. Canard competed in the MX2 class, which features 250cc four-stroke motorcycles. Short raced the Open class.

In the first moto, which combined the MX1 and MX2 class, Dungey took the lead on the second lap and held on for the win. Canard, however, crashed soon after the start and had to battle back all race, finishing 12th. In the second moto -- MX2 and Open -- Short took the lead with a massive holeshot, only to crash and drop back to 25th. Canard finished seventh, while Short recovered to finish 13th.

The crashes put AMA Team USA behind the German team of Max Nagl, Ken Roczen, and Marcus Schiffer heading into the third moto, but Dungey and Short left no doubt by the end of the race. They out-rode the field to finish first and second and give AMA Team USA the win by 10 points over Belgium.

The Motocross of Nations is one of the most prestigious motocross races in the world. It features teams competing by nationality for a combined score to determine the overall championship-winning team. The event emerged in post-war Europe in 1947 and has run uninterrupted since that time. The United States is the all-time leader in Motocross of Nations overall victories with 21. Great Britain is second with 16.

Chad Reed out of Aussie MXoN Team as Marmont steps up to the plate

Jay Marmont

Motorcycling Australia (MA) can confirm that Chad Reed has withdrawn from the Australian Team for the 2010 Motocross of Nations to be held in Colorado, USA on 25-26 September.

Diagnosed with Epstein Barr Syndrome little more than a month ago and unable to defend his 2009 AMA Motocross Championship title, Reed made the difficult decision to withdraw from the Australian Team.

In a statement released earlier, Reed said that without a doubt Marmont the best candidate and his performance was the benchmark of the Australian Motocross scene.

"Trying to make the "smartest" decision, isn't always the easiest decision so it is really hard for me to announce that I am not going to be racing in the 2010 Motocross of Nations,” Reed stated.

"I am always extremely proud to represent my country at this event, not only is it an honour to be chosen, Team Australia has always been a case of my best mates and I racing together.

“However, based on my performance and health this year I have to make a smart decision and I feel that there is someone else who deserve this honour more than I do.

"For the past three years no one has come close to Jay's performance in the Australian Motocross scene - even in the middle of the greatest personal adversity he didn't drop the ball once and I think he will truly do his country proud.

"Getting well is my number one priority right now, I have to be healthy and ready for the 2011 AMA Supercross Series and AMA Pro Motocross Championship.”

Reserve rider and three times Australian Motocross Champion Jay Marmont will have some big shoes to fill, as he steps up to replace Reed.

Speaking after the announcement, the Wollongong local was excited about the opportunity to represent his country for the first time.

“This is a dream come true for me,” Marmont said.

“I was wondering if I would ever get my shot because the last few years, even though I’ve done well domestically, there’s always been a strong group of riders based in America.

“When I got the call I was over the moon and now I’m just so excited to go over there - to race guys I’ve never raced before and most importantly to represent my country.

“I’ve always been a team player and been consistent in my racing so I’m going to give it all I’ve got to put myself and the team in the best position possible.

“Dacka [Marmont’s Team Manager and former Mr Motocross Champion Craig Dack] likes to remind us every time the des Nations is on, that when he went over to race they were the highest placed Aussie Team and that no one’s has topped it yet, so this is my chance to go one better!

“We’ve got a strong team – on paper it may not be as strong as we’ve had in the past – but it’s a team with nothing to lose so everyone is going to go out there and give it their all and hopefully we can do well.

“I was reading the other day that the Australian Team came third at the Junior Motocross World Championship - good on them – that is something they can be very proud of and if we can go out there and do what they did or even better that would be a huge feat for us!”
