SPEEDWEEK DOWNUNDER – Australia’s Biggest Motorbike and Trade Show Festival

There has never been a motorbike trade show of this size due to the fact that it is so difficult to secure a venue large enough. After gaining the full support of the Ipswich City Council, the event organisers Dom Studin and Daniel Dries secured the largest venue in Queensland by signing a 6 year contract with Queensland Raceway. Event organiser Dom Studin says “this type of event has been a long time coming, we know bike enthusiasts all over Australia have been waiting for this for a while so we are expecting big numbers, we estimate we will see twenty to fifty thousand tickets sold”.

After a few hours at most trade shows there is not much left to do or see, so SPEEDWEEK DOWNUNDER organisers have accommodated for men, women and children by incorporating trade stalls, bike displays, live bands, dyno shootouts, amusement rides, show and shines, promo girls, a modelling competition, Jelly Wrestling, fun games and spectator involvement to create a fun, family festival atmosphere.

This is the only show where you can go and participate in events, test rides, purchase or finance your bike on site, camp with your mates while watching stunt shows and listening to live bands. This show has it all.

The festival will feature bands such as: The Giants featuring Angry Anderson, Black Horse Six, Chasing Sun and Death Valley, combined with entertainment from Showtime FMX and Stuntz Inc featuring Matt Mingay.

You will be able to participate in events such as; Push the Keg, Dirt Drags, Catch the Snag, Go to Whoa, Slow Race, Obstacle Race, Show and Shine, Drags, Burnouts and a Corn Eating Comp.

SPEEDWEEK DOWNUNDER is a festival created to bring bike lovers from all backgrounds together for a fun filled weekend of everything bike related.

17 Year Old Matt Walters Wins 2010 Australian Superstock 600 Championship on Ninja ZX-6R !

Kawasaki is pleased to announce that 17 year old KCR (Kawasaki Connection Racing) rider Matt Walters has won the 2010 Australian Superstock 600 Championship on board his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R.

Matt trailed by 16 points heading into the 5th and final round at Queensland Raceway on 21-22 August and was hungry for success after tasting victory at the 2nd round of the series in Darwin, where he won the round.

Matt’s weekend didn’t start as planned as he qualified his Ninja ZX-6R in 6th place on the back of a high speed practice crash on board his Superstock 1000 Ninja ZX-10R on a wet track. Starting off the front row of the grid for the first time all year, Matt was unperturbed, focusing solely on the Championship win.

Matt rode sensationally throughout the 3 races on Saturday to take 1-2-1 and position himself in equal first in the points standings heading into Sunday’s racing. Thanks to fast, aggressive starts and a steely determination, Matt took 1-1-2 on Sunday to take the round and Championship win.

Matt says, “It feels great to be the Australian Superstock 600 Champion! I’d like to give a big thanks to Kawasaki Australia for supporting both myself and KCR for the last 2 years.”

“I’d also like to give a big thanks to Aaron from Rover Coaches for his support this season and also a special thanks to Murray Sayle for sticking by my side for the last 2 years.”

Matt will now take a well deserved rest from training but will still keep busy riding his KX450F MX bike with his mates and working at the Walters’ family owned Kawasaki dealership, Kawasaki Connection, in Cessnock NSW.

Matt’s next racing commitment will see him competing in the Australian Supersport class at the upcoming Australian MotoGP at Phillip Island in October.

Craig Lowndes Joins Suzuki

V8 Supercar star Craig Lowndes has joined Suzuki as an official Ambassador, it was announced today.

One of Australia's highest-profile and most popular motorsport personalities, Lowndes is also a passionate motorcyclist and will work alongside Suzuki to promote its brand and products.

"Motorcycles have always been an important part of my life … I use a motorcrosser for fitness training every day on my farm and I love attending ride days to unwind, so I am super excited to be onboard with Suzuki," Craig Lowndes says.

"The new Suzuki GSX-R1000 is an awesome bike, just amazing, I can't believe how good it is, and the new RM-Z450 is a fantastic race-winning package.

The four-time Bathurst winner and three-time Australian Champion will carry the Suzuki brand proudly on his V8 Supercar helmet and racesuit, and will be a special guest at the Suzuki facility at this year's MotoGP, an event he attends regularly.

"By winning multiple championships, Craig has a demonstrated passion for performance on the race track that is perfectly matched to the Suzuki Motorcycle brand," said Perry Morison, General Manager Motorcycles, Suzuki Australia.

"He is an ideal person to represent the Suzuki brand."

Lowndes will also attend the Australian Superbike Championship round at Queensland Raceway this weekend to meet Team Suzuki.
