Suzuki Dominates Under 19 Supercross Opener

RACE REPORT

2011 Australian National Supercross Championship (Round One)
Melbourne (VIC)
22 October 2011

Team Raceline Pirelli Suzuki riders Errol Willis and Joey Savatgy dominated proceedings at the opening round of the 2011 Australasian Supercross Championship held at Melbourne Knights Stadium, Melbourne.

Errol Willis - Suzuki

Despite volatile weather and treacherous track conditions, the Suzuki RM-Z250 mounted team mates were never headed during the Under 19 final, finishing 1 - 2.

Willis, the reigning Australian National Motocross Under 19s Champion, placed second in his heat and grabbed the opportunity in the final by scoring a thrilling victory.

U.S import Savatgy made an impressive debut, dominating his heat race for an easy victory before finishing a close second in the final.

Pro Open rider Lawson Bopping, still in his rookie 450 season, looked fast and aggressive on board his fuel injected RM-Z450.

Finishing first in his heat, his night was cut short after a broken clutch lever ruined his hopes of completing the final.

Round two of the Australasian Supercross Championship will take place at WIN Stadium in Wollongong next Saturday October 29.

CHRIS TISDALE, GENERAL MANAGER, TEAM RACELINE PIRELLI SUZUKI

"The U19s result for the team was a great start. Both Joey and Errol put on an exciting battle. To be honest, I was glad to see them both get over the line after such an intense last lap. It was really disappointing to see Lawson suffer a broken clutch lever after such a strong first heat win. But the conditions were terrible and unfortunately Lawson didn't have luck on his side in the final. He will be one to watch in the next few rounds."

Solid Points Haul For Daniel McCoy At Murray Bridge

p>Daniel McCoy is climbing the points ladder

Rockstar Motul Suzuki's Daniel McCoy has moved up to fourth place in the Pro Lites class of the 2011 Australian National Motocross Championship after a consistent four motos at the fourth round of the Championship at Murray Bridge, South Australia.

McCoy muscled his fuel-injected RM-Z250 around a rough and tough track that deteriorated as the day progressed, which showed why he is one of the most consistent riders on the gate with a 6-7-7-7 result.

McCoy's fifth place moves him up to fourth place overall in the Championship and he is now just eight points off Brenden Harrison in third place.

In the Pro Open class, Rockstar Motul Suzuki's Cody Cooper returned from a rib injury he sustained at the second round of the Championship.

Suffering from lack of time on the bike Cooper put in a solid performance over the first two motos but his injury affected his moto three and four results.

Cooper finished with a 7-10-21-DNF result, resulting in a 13th place overall on the day and 13th place in the Championship.

Jay Foreman - Team Rockstar Motul Suzuki Team Manager

"Daniel showed how professional he is out there today. He rode really consistent which is why he is where he is in the Championship. We will continue to work on Daniel's starts so he gets the jump on his rivals.

"Cody gave it his best shot this weekend. It was always a big ask to come back four weeks after breaking ribs and collapsing a lung, but we know how tough Cody is and nothing would have kept him off the bike this weekend.

"We have a weekend off now so another two week break will only help Cody in his recovery.

"Cody holeshot two races so his starts were good, his speed was okay, we just need to get him back to riding without pain from the injury."

The series will now move to Toowoomba in Queensland for round five on May 22.

Rockstar Motul Suzuki's Cody Cooper Claims New Zealand Motocross Championship

Suzuki Claims NZ MX Championship

Rockstar Motul Suzuki's Cody Cooper was unstoppable as he claimed the 2011 New Zealand National MX1 motocross crown on Sunday.

Cooper dominated the fourth and final round of the New Zealand Motocross Championship near New Plymouth on Sunday, as he claimed a hat-trick of wins on the sticky, damp Barrett Road circuit.

By winning the first MX1 race of the day, Cooper leapfrogged series leader Josh Coppins in the standings, and in doing so took the championship lead for the first time this season. Cooper further strengthened his hold on the #1 plate by winning the two remaining races of the day.

Cooper was in dominant form over the course of the championship, claiming the overall win in three of the four rounds.

"It was a good series for me this year", admitted Cooper afterwards.

"After suffering from arm-pump in Timaru, we changed the fork settings and it was awesome after that. I feel confident now as I head back across the Tasman to continue my Australian championship campaign."

Cooper is currently second in the Pro Open class of the Australian National Motocross Championship after a muddy opening round in Victoria a fortnight ago.

"I love the Suzuki. I just think it's a bike that suits my style. My best campaign in the United States was on a Suzuki too."

In the MX2 Class, Rockstar Motul Suzuki's Daniel McCoy just missed out on the championship after a challenging race day.

McCoy was philosophical about his result.

"I just couldn't get good starts today and couldn't really put myself in a good position to win. I didn't come here expecting to win a championship, so to be so close to doing just that is very pleasing for me. But it is a little disappointing at the same time. Maybe I can come back next year and win it."

Both Cooper and McCoy now head to the second round of the Australian National Motocross Championship at Appin, NSW, April 3rd.

New Suzuki GSX-R600

2011 Suzuki GSX-R600

The hotly anticipated, all-new 2011 GSX-R600 supersport machine has arrived in Australia, after wowing the industry and enthusiasts in preview displays.

Suzuki's supersport stunner has been completely redesigned for 2011 and is significantly lighter than its predecessors, delivering more mid range power.

"The Suzuki GSX-R600 has always been a class leader thanks to its powerful combination of race-proven technology and world-class engineering," Perry Morison, General Manager, Motorcycles, Suzuki Australia said.

"This has been developed even further for the 2011 GSX-R600, with Suzuki engineers reducing the weight of individual parts across the whole machine, which has resulted in nine kilograms being shaved off the overall weight of the motorcycle.

"The lighter weight of the new generation GSX-R600 and many further refinements to the engine, chassis and braking has made for a more responsive and exhilarating ride."

A proven race winner, the Suzuki GSX-R600 dominated racetracks in the 2010 Australian Supersport Championship, clinching the title with Troy Herfoss at the helm and also Team Suzuki's first Championship in this category and will be looking to own the racetrack again in 2011.

At the heart of the all new GSX-R600 is a compact 599cc, four cylinder, liquid cooled engine, featuring a class-leading power-to-weight ratio and reduced weight for enhanced running performance.

Advanced technology developed in MotoGP racing is present in the GSX-R600's engine with a refined ignition control and newly designed pistons and camshafts for improved overall acceleration.

Equipped with two performance settings, the refined Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (S-DMS) offers advanced digital engine management for instantaneous switching between engine maps to suit rider preference or riding conditions.

An innovative back-torque limiting clutch helps makes downshifts smoother and more controlled, while the six-speed transmission features new drive ratios for improved low-to-mid rpm range acceleration performance.

The GSX-R600's all new chassis has been redesigned with an emphasis on weight reduction and compactness to improve overall handling.

With a newly designed, lightweight twin-spar aluminium frame, made from just five cast sections, and revolutionary inverted Showa Big Piston Front-forks (BPF), the GSX-R600 offers supreme handling at racetrack speeds.

A relatively low seat height and a shorter reach to the handlebars due to the 15mm shorter wheelbase creates a seating position carefully designed to work well both for racetrack and street riding.

Delivering advanced stopping power, the GSX-R600's braking system now uses dual radial-mounted, four-piston Brembo monoblock calipers and 310mm dual floating discs, and a single piston rear brake caliper with a 220mm disc.

The result of extensive wind tunnel development, the 2011 GSX-R600's aerodynamics have been further refined for an edgy yet smooth look that highlights the bikes functionality.

The GSX-R600's bodywork is more compact for 2011, with overhang reduced by 90mm and a weight reduction of a staggering 35 per cent.

The good looks of the race winning machine are finished off by a reshaped fuel tank, vertically stacked dual headlights and mirror-mounted turn signals.

Completing the package, the GSX-R600 instrument cluster features an analogue tachometer, digital LCD speedometer and LED indicators, with a stopwatch and lap timer new functionality additions.

In three stunning colour schemes - Metallic Triton Blue / Glass Splash White, Metallic Mat Black / Pearl Mirage White or Glass Sparkle Black - the 2011 GSX-R600 is now available for a Recommended Price of $15,690*, backed by Suzuki's two-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.

For further information on the 2011 Suzuki GSX-R600, interested customers should visit their local Suzuki dealer, who can be found through the Dealer Locator on www.suzuki.com.au.

* Recommended Price includes GST, excludes dealer delivery and government charges.
