WSS '10 Round 1 | Phillip Island, day 1

Team ParkinGO Triumph BE1 Racing kicked off the season with two practice sessions which determined the provisional starting grid of round 1 of World Supersport. The team did improve considerably compared to this week's testing as Chaz Davies set the sixth fastest time, just three tenths behind the pole position. Sebastien Charpentier finished ninth and adapted the bike to his riding style while Jason Di Salvo found a better feeling with the track improving his position compared to the test. The only bad piece of news was a banal failure of communication between the Spanish and international Federations due to an erroneus license number which prevented David Salom from racing today.

The bike livery that the "Four Musketeers" will be racing on this season was also unveiled on this occasion.

CHAZ DAVIES | Triumph Daytona 675 | 6th in 1'34.939: "I improved my performance by over half a second compared to the test in the third section but I can do better. We're trying to get more grip in that section of the track and hopefully finish in row one".

SEBASTIEN CHARPENTIER | Triumph Daytona 675 | 9th in 1'36.039: "I tried out different cycle part solutions today as well. I'm starting to know the bike better. I think I'm on the right path and I'm confident I can further improve tomorrow".

JASON DI SALVO | Triumph Daytona 675 | 10th in 1'36.208: "I did very well in the first lap right away and finished seventh. We then tried to push a little bit more but that setup solution didn't help us improve although we made a tremendous amount of progress since the test. My goal for tomorrow is to get a better starting position".

Triumph Rocket Launched

Triumph Australia launched the new Rocket Roadster on 9th February 2010, incorporating the 'Triumph Rocket Roadster World Cup Challenge'.

Six Journalists from some of Australia's leading motorcycle magazines took part in a road ride from Melbourne to Heathcote Dragway in Regional Victoria. The bikes were put through their paces over and over again in an elimination 'Chicago Shootout' competition that resulted in a final race off between Jeff Ware of Rapid Motorcycles and diminutive Kellie Buckley of AMCN, the latter taking out the trophy with an impressive 12.14 sec' pass! Especially impressive when you consider that it was her first time on a Rocket, AND a Drag strip!!!

Assisted on the day by well known Drag racer 'Pommy Pete Allen' and son Maurice, the 'Rocket Roadster World Cup' was, "a fun way of launching the Roadster", commented Triumphs Marketing Manager Mal Jarrett. "As far as we are aware, we are the only ones in the World to have had a Rocket Roadster Drag challenge, so as far as we are concerned it was a World Cup event"!

Also on hand to meet the press was Victorian Christian Cassela who will be piloting a Daytona 675 in this years Supersport series, and Stunt Maestro Lukey Luke wowed the gathered throng with a display of his finely honed stunting skills on his Street Triple, then amazed everyone by jumping onto a new Roadster and pulling monster wheelies and burnouts. The Rocket Roadster is available from Triumph Dealers now...

Triumph strong again in 2010

Triumph has started off the year strongly with top 10 finishes in several categories.

The recently released Thunderbird has flown into the 'Road Bikes' category in a very commendable 6th place overall and 4th place in the 'Cruiser' category. 'We were always confident that the Thunderbird was going to raise some feathers in the 'Cruiser category' stated Triumphs Marketing Manager Mal Jarrett, but to have taken out 6th spot overall in the total 'Road Bike' category is a great result".

The Sprint ST came in at 2nd place in the 'Sports Touring' category, another great result for the Sprint, and the Tiger an equal 4th in the 'Adventure Touring' category.

Triumph continued to absolutely dominate the 'Naked Bike' category, with the Street Triple in 3rd place, the Thruxton in 5th place, the Bonneville T100 in 8th and the Speed Triple in 10th.

Asked what these results could be attributed too, Jarrett commented "we have great bikes, accessories and clothing, backed by a professional dealer network". The message is clear, our customers are choosing a brand that they can trust for not only being an exciting and reliable mount, but one that will retain its resale value, and be around for many years to come".

2010 Triumph Tiger

A truly versatile bike the Tiger is equally at home scratching, touring or commuting and has won a legion of fans the world over thanks to its all round ability.

At the Tiger's heart is the amazing 1050cc, fuel injected, three-cylinder engine, renowned for its addictive character and spine-tingling triple howl. There's ample reserves of both torque and horsepower to make two-up fully laden tours a breeze. Peak power of 113PS is delivered at 9,400rpm, with 98Nm torque at 6,250rpm.

The chassis features a twin-spar aluminium frame with a braced aluminium swingarm. Cast aluminium wheels are road orientated 17in variants, allowing a wide choice of tyres; the front tyre's a 120/70 ZR17, the rear a 180/55 ZR17. The 43mm upside down fully adjustable forks and remote spring preload and rebound damping adjustable rear shock give a smooth and controlled ride over all surfaces. Twin four-piston radial calipers bite 320mm front discs, the rear 255mm disc uses a single twin-piston caliper.

The Tiger's seat height is a manageable 835mm (32.8in), matched to a dry weight of 198kg (436lbs). ABS is available as an optional extra. Fuel capacity is 20 litres (4.4 gal), giving an excellent touring range. Comfort has always been a Tiger trait and rider and pillion benefit from great ergonomics, excellent wind protection and rubber mounted handle bars and foot pegs.

Fusion White and Jet Black colour options continue for 2010.

The popular Tiger SE ABS will continue into 2010. This special edition model comes in a choice of two colours - Matt Graphite or Blazing Orange - and includes ABS, colour matched panniers and hand guards as standard.

Triumph's ABS system gives riders the opportunity to use 100 percent of a bike's braking capability in an emergency situation without the concern of locking the wheels. The system uses sensors on the wheels to make approximately 100 calculations every second, allowing the brake to be released for a fraction of a second as the wheel locks up before force is then automatically reapplied. The ABS system is specifically designed not to affect the day-to-day feel of the bike in any way.
