Triumph Australia announces prices of 2 new 2012 models

2012 Triumph Tiger

Triumph Australia can today confirm the retail prices of its new-for-2012 models, the Tiger Explorer and Speed Triple R/ABS, with a focus on offering customers a value for money package with high-specifications for competitive prices.

The Tiger Explorer is Triumph's first entry into the premium adventure touring sector and features a class leading specification as standard.

The all-new 1215cc three-cylinder powerplant delivers a best-in-class engine and key features of the new model include the standard fitment of ABS brakes, cruise control, traction control and a durable shaft drive unit.

The Tiger Explorer goes on sale from late May 2012, priced at a very competitive $21790 plus ORC.

Joining the Tiger Explorer in 2012 range is the Speed Triple R/ABS, a premium version of Triumph's iconic Speed Triple. Taking the already class-leading Speed Triple as its base, the R version employs even higher-specification chassis components to take handling to yet another level. With MotoGP developed Ohlins suspension front and rear, Brembo monoblock brakes and lightweight forged aluminium wheels, as well as sporty new colours and graphics and ABS as standard fitment, the Speed Triple R/ABS represents excellent value for money at $21110 plus ORC when it goes on sale from late March 2012.

Triumph Australia's Marketing Manager Mal Jarrett commented, "The Explorer and Speed Triple R/ABS are two excellent new products for 2012, which have been hotly anticipated. Following on from the release of the Tiger 800's in 2011, the Explorer has everyone waiting to see what Triumph has been able to accomplish with the biggest of all its 'Big Cats'. Pricing is very competitive on both the Explorer and Speed Triple R/ABS, and confirms Triumph's commitment to making excellent products while offering great value for money. Interest in the new models since their announcement in November 2011, has been unprecedented, with numerous deposits taken on them sight unseen!"

Triumph Tiger 1050

  • Outstandingly versatile motorcycle with 115PS 1050cc engine
  • Sporting chassis with 17" alloy wheels and adjustable 43mm upside down forks
  • Comfortable 835mm seat gives a commanding riding position
  • SE edition includes panniers, handguards and ABS brakes as standard
  • Standard two-year unlimited mileage warranty

2011 Triumph Tiger 1050

A truly versatile motorcycle, the Triumph Tiger 1050 is a rare creature, one that is equally at home in the urban jungle or wide open prairies.

It is this ability to do all things equally well that has made the Tiger 1050 one of Triumph's best selling models in recent years and given it a huge following around the world.

Sit astride the Tiger 1050 and you will understand just why so many year-round riders choose one as their daily ride. The tall (835mm) riding position gives the rider a commanding view over the traffic, with the well appointed saddle facilitating comfortable day-long riding.

The Tiger 1050's effortless power comes from a 115PS version of Triumph's legendary 1050cc triple which delivers 98Nm of torque at just 6250rpm.

But while the Tiger 1050 is perfectly at home on the commute and the open highway, it is on twisting roads where it really excels.

Triumph has endowed the Tiger 1050 with a chassis that would not be out of place on a sports bike.

The aluminium twin spar frame features a braced aluminium swingarm and light 17" alloy wheels fitted with sporting road tyres. The 43mm inverted front forks are fully adjustable for preload, rebound and compression damping, with the rear monoshock unit also adjustable for preload and rebound.

Braking power comes from twin four-piston radial calipers gripping 320mm front brakes.

Combined with the commanding riding position and wide handlebars, the Tiger 1050's chassis and engine combination adds up to a motorcycle that inspires confidence and is deceptively easy to ride quickly. With a fuel capacity of 20 litres, the Tiger 1050 is capable of covering over 200 miles between fuel stops. The Tiger 1050 is available in two metallic colours, Phantom Black and Crystal White.

A number of official Triumph accessories are available for the Tiger 1050. Most popular are the colour-matched hard luggage, heated grips and gel touring seats, confirming the Tiger 1050's place as an all-round workhorse.

A higher-specification Tiger 1050SE is also available. It features ABS brakes as standard, along with panniers (giving a capacity of 43 litres), centre stand, gel seat and handguards. The Tiger 1050SE also comes in two distinctive colour schemes: Intense Orange and a two-tone Matt Graphite and Matt Black combination.

Triumph Confirms 2011 World Supersport Commitments

Triumph BE1 Racing will enter the 2011 Supersport World Championship with an exciting line-up of British star Chaz Davies and all-action Italian rider Luca Scassa racing the factory Daytona 675s.

Davies, 23, stays with the squad for his second full season on the three-cylinder Triumph. The British racer currently lies fourth in the 2010 Supersport World Championship standings, having finished on the podium three times this season.

Meanwhile former Italian supersport champion Scassa, known to his many fans as 'The Rocker' will be making his debut in the middleweight class with Triumph. The 27-year-old from Arezzo is a popular figure in the international paddock and has been one of the sensations of this year's world superbike campaign, scoring several impressive qualifying performances and a string of top 10 finishes on a privately entered Ducati.

"I'm really happy to be doing a second year with Triumph and BE1 Racing", commented Davies. "It's a long time since I have been in that situation and I really want to take advantage of all the good work that we've done this year. I enjoy working with this team and we have plans to further develop the Daytona 675. We have shown this year that we can run at the front and we can only move forward in 2011".

Scassa added: "I have been riding 1000cc bikes in recent years but I have experience of supersport racing from the Italian championship. I am looking forward to riding the Daytona 675. This will be my first experience of a three cylinder bike and I think that the extra torque will prove advantageous at some tracks. BE1 Racing has ambitions to be at the very top and one of my motivations for signing is that I can see the desire to win in the eyes of Giuliano Rovelli (owner of BE1 Racing). It is important for me to be racing with a factory team again and I can see the great progress that Triumph has made in the championship over the past few years".

Owner Giuliano Rovelli said: "The renewal of Chaz's contract is the logical result of the excellent job he has done throughout the season. As well as getting onto the podium, Chaz has proved that he can take advantage of every situation thanks to the serenity with which he tackles his job and his exceptional poker of concentration. I'm convinced that as he is still young he's still got a lot of time to improve. Luca Scassa is the big news for 2011, he has impressed me for the determination he takes onto the track. He and Chaz will make up a strong pairing".

In addition to running Triumph's official entry in the Supersport World Championship, BE1 Racing will again run the ParkinGO European Series, a monomarque championship run at selected Superbike World Championship rounds using Triumph machinery.

Triumph - WSS '10 Round 11 | Nurburgring, Day 1

David Salom - Triumph

Spaniard David Salom set the second fastest time to score a very good result in the opening day of the Supersport round held at Nurburgring, establishing himself as one of the possible contenders for the race. Despite the good performance, Salom is convinced he can improve and is confident for tomorrow. Frenchman Matthieu Lagrive put in a positive performance to post the ninth quickest time of the day and expectations are high for him as well. On the other hand, Chaz Davies was slowed down by a crash without consequences, but was able to finish eleventh at his debut on the German track, while Iannuzzo focused on finding a good setup which should enable him to find a good feeling with the bike in qualifying tomorrow.

DAVID SALOM | Triumph Daytona 675 | 2nd in 1'59.277 : "Everything went smoothly today, but I still have to change the way I approach the last section of the track, where I lose all the time to Sofuoglu. I'm confident I can do just as well tomorrow, when I'll try to be more effective in the last few corners".

MATTHIEU LAGRIVE | Triumph Daytona 675 | 9th in 2'00.535 : "I posted a good time, but I'm not satisfied with the setup yet. I think I can do much better when I have full confidence on the setup. We're on the right path nonetheless and hopefully will qualify in the first two rows".

CHAZ DAVIES | Triumph Daytona 675 | 11th in 2'01.073 : "It's my first time at Nurburgring, so I focused on learning the track and on finding a good base setup. By the end of the session we didn't make the right choice for the fork and so we must make a big step forward tomorrow".

VITTORIO IANNUZZO | Triumph Daytona 675 | 15th in 2'01.598 : "I approached practice in a different way and managed to do a pretty good job. However, I still have some issues on the back end when exiting the corner and have to work on which trajectory to take in the first corner. My goal is to do well in warm up and get a good starting position in qualifying practice”.

Cycle Torque Triumph 675 Success

Another successful race meeting for team 'Cycle Torque/Hunter Valley Paintball' on the Triumph Daytona 675. Young Alex Pickett took three podiums, including a win, on Saturday's FX Nationals, clawing back 12 points out of the leader; Angus Reekie (KTM). Alex now sits in second place in the FX Nationals, 3 points behind Reekie with 2 rounds to go.

On Sunday Alex took three wins and a second place, increasing his lead in the Australian Formula Extreme Pro Twins F3 Championship. Alex now has a nine point buffer over Gary Peake, also 675 mounted. There are two rounds remaining.

"All we have to do to the Triumph is check tyre pressures and add fuel. We haven't touched the suspension since the very first track day we did last year. In fact except for a lighter rear spring, the suspension is stock.

The bike has been very reliable, and fast", said 16-year-old Alex.
