Jay Marmont Nails Second In Super X Championship

Jay Marmont

CDR Rockstar Yamaha's Jay Marmont locked down second place in the championship after a rain soaked mud bath at the seventh and final round of the 2010 Monster Energy Super X Championship held at Brisbane's QSAC Stadium on Saturday Night.

Marmont entered the final round with a handy points buffer over third place in the Pro Open class and only needed an intelligent nights' racing to bring home the runner up position and be the first Australian rider in the overall standings.

Contesting the Triple Challenge format with a huge 75points available, the championship win was still up for grabs, although unlikely, as the points leader US Import Josh Hansen, had plenty of points up his sleeve. For Marmont it was all about consolidating his second place in what were extremely treacherous conditions.

Marmont finished the night with 2-6-4 moto scores for fourth overall, after slogging it out in the deep, sticky mud that made just circulating the track an achievement.

Throughout the seven round championship, Marmont never finished any round outside the top five at any round and cemented his position as Australia's most consistent racer.

"It was tough out there tonight and trying to race was almost out of the question with the track the way it was. My whole plan was to keep the bike on two wheels and stay away from all the water and mud that can cause a mechanical problem. It wasn't pretty but we did exactly what we needed to do," Marmont says with mud in his eye.

Reflecting on the 2010 championship, the third year running Marmont and his CDR Rockstar Yamaha team have landed on the podium, Marmont had this to say.

"To finish as the first Australian rider and second in the series is something I am proud off. Throughout the championship, there were plenty of US riders that came in and out of the series but I was able to stay consistent and keep racking up points at every round."

"It's been a long year with the way our season is structured at the moment so it is tough to back up every week over such a long period of time. I'm going to get away from bikes for a few weeks now and try and recharge for next year. I have never really taken a break from racing in my career so I'm looking forward to four to six weeks off the bike and come back in 2011 stronger than ever."

"But I also must thank everyone at the CDR Rockstar Yamaha team. They are the best team in the pits and the people that work at CDR have given me a great bike and amazing support again in 2010. My results are a reflection of the work everyone on the team puts in," Marmont finishes.

Team owner of CDR Rockstar Yamaha, Craig Dack was also full of praise of Marmont and his team after a difficult championship.

"It's been a hectic championship with seven rounds in eight weeks including two rounds in New Zealand and one in Tasmania. To have Jay consistently up the front has been a credit to him and his work ethic and also to that of Jason, Todd, Gary and Shawn who work tirelessly to prepare bikes and have everything in place."

"As a team owner I would love to win every race but considering the level of competition in this championship and the US talent that has competed at these events, Jay's second place is a very good result. He continues to battle for every point and every position on the track and it has added up to another successful championship for Jay and CDR Rockstar Yamaha," Dack concluded.

The Brisbane round concluded the 2010 race calendar for Jay Marmont and his CDR Rockstar Yamaha Team. They can add this second place finish to the 2010 MX National crown Jay and the team won in July and look back at 2010 as another successful year for Australia's longest running professional motocross team.

Jay Marmont And CDR Rockstar Yamaha Claim MX Championship Hat Trick

Jay Marmont & Team CDR Rockstar Yamaha

Jay Marmont etched himself in the record books of Australian sport today taking his third consecutive Australian Motocross Championship after an action packed final round of the Rockstar MX Nationals at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast.

In a feat that emulated his boss, motocross legend Craig Dack, Marmont became the first rider since Dack in the late 80's to win three national motocross championships on the trot in the premere Pro Open class and make him one of the most coveted riders in the sport.

"It feels so good to get this championship for myself and the team. It's been a trying year in many ways, but when it had to be done, the CDR Rockstar Yamaha team worked hard to get me the bike that I wanted and I was able to win races at the important times," Marmont said moments after the final race.

"Three in a row was a goal at the start of the year and to achieve it and have my name alongside the legends of the sport like Craig and Jeff Leisk is a huge honour," he says humbly.

"I can't thank Craig, Gary, Shawn, my mechanic Jason and everyone at CDR Rockstar Energy Drink Yamaha. The team continually rally behind me with the best bike and support available.

My wife Abby and my family also make huge sacrifices for my career and this win is for them as well," Marmont finishes.

Marmont, on board his CDR Rockstar Energy Drink Yamaha YZ450F, entered the final round with a 40 point gap over his rivals, But the four moto sprint format that sees the nation's top riders line up for four back to back sprint races and the tension was high as the field rocketed away for moto one.

Using his years of experience, Marmont logged fourth in moto one and rode with plenty of street smarts, but controversy surfaced in moto two.

Jay launched the big extension jump out of the first turn at Coolum which had been outlawed and received at 20 second stop/ go penalty during the race.

Marmont took it in his stride, got back on the track and finished out the race in sixth place but the points gap had narrowed to 21. Again, using his skill and experience, Marmont raced to a second in moto three and then a solid third in the final leg and crossed the finish line with arms raised and instantly into the arms of his team and family.

His 4-6-2-3 moto results were good enough for third overall for the round and claim his third national motocross championship.

"Jay is fast becoming a warrior and icon of Australian motocross," states CDR owner and manager, Craig Dack. He continually finds ways to challenge and raise himself to every occasion. I am amazed by his mental strength and his ability to fight. He never quits and he thoroughly deserves all the accolades that come his way. To win three championships in a row is a testament to his character and determination," Dack comments.

Jay's father, Peter was also on hand to celebrate with his son moments after the final race and was as emotional as his victorious son.

"I couldn't be prouder of him. I know the work that he puts into his racing and the dedication he and Abby have towards motocross and this is an amazing result. Three in a row is a huge achievement and one that he has dedicated his life to."

"I am so happy and excited for him," Peter offers.

Local star Tye Simmonds ready for MX Nationals Sprint format

Rockstar MX Nationals

Only days remain until the gates drop on the penultimate round of the 2010 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals, and Bourke local, Tye Simmonds, can’t wait to ride against Australia’s best at his home-track on Sunday 19 July.

“This weekend is a big deal for me,” Simmonds said.

“There’s been so much encouragement from the local community; everyone is supporting me 100 per cent which is great especially coming into a round so close to home.

“I hope everyone comes to have a look – to see what I do for a job, it should be a really great weekend.”

The KTM rider is currently placed third in the premier Pro Opens class and is looking forward to the MX Sprint format making its debut at the Moree Motorcycle Club this Sunday.

In the MX Sprint format, riders will be challenged to four motos in two dynamic back-to-back sessions throughout the day.

With a total of 100 points up for grabs, and twice as many races as the traditional format, it will be an action-packed round for fans.

“When I heard about the format I was stoked,” he said.

“Having the break between the two session’s means I can ride and then come back in and talk to everyone from town and from Bourke about the racing so far.

“Now all I have to do is go out there and do my best so I’m really looking forward to it.”

After a consistent but slow start to the year, Simmonds finally found form at the sixth round of the Series at Wodonga, where despite a DNF in the first race, he placed first and second in the remaining two motos.

“At the last round I think I finally started to loosen up,” he said.

“In the Pro Lites class it was sort of like – ‘oh yeah, I’ve raced these guys all my life, this isn’t going to be a problem’ but when I first stepped into the Pro Opens class this year I put a lot of pressure on myself.

“I’d be thinking, ‘these are the big boys, they’re the fastest in Australia, I’ve got to pull my finger out’ – and it affected me and my riding.

“Going into Wodonga I really didn’t care – I had that attitude where no one really mattered and I just had to do my best.

“And I had a really good weekend – there have been a few rounds where I should have been able to do that and haven’t, but now I know I’ve got it in me I should be able to do it every weekend no worries!”

The seventh round of the 2010 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals will be held on Sunday 18 July at:

Moree Motorcycle Club
10 minutes North of Moree
Newell HWY
NSW

Admission:

2010 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals count down

Australia’s best Motocross riders will be aiming to make a break for it on Sunday 27 June, when the 2010 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals rolls into Albury Wodonga.

Jay Marmont

With only three rounds to go, riders will be battling it out for remaining Championship points in a bid to improve their overall standing as the Series nears the end of what has been a massive year.

In the Pro Opens class reigning Champ and CDR Rockstar Yamaha Team rider Jay Marmont will come into the round with the red leader plates, however, with only 13 points separating him from Bourke local and JDR Motorex KTM’s Tye Simmonds, he’ll have to work hard if he’s going to make it three Championships in a row.

Marmont is not the only one facing pressure, with Simmonds sitting merely three points ahead of third placed Honda privateer, Dean Ferris.

Ferris is currently in Europe, banging bars with some of the World’s best riders and looks set to make life difficult for the front runners when he returns.

Also keen to make life harder for the top riders is UK import, Kawasaki Racing Team’s Billy Mackenzie, who has been clocking up some serious bike time and posting outstanding results since injuring his wrist in the second round.

American rider PJ Larsen has amassed an impressive 55 point lead for the JDR Motorex KTM Team in the Pro Lites class in the lead up to the sixth round, while in the Under 19’s, MX Rad Coastal KTM’s Josh Cachia sits 33 points clear of Yamaha Junior Development Team rider Ross Beaton.

Albury Wodonga Motorcycle Club President, Craig Windham said that preparations at the club were going well and if the weather holds out it will be an awesome day of racing!

“Everything is going really well,” Windham said.

“Track preparation is coming along nicely and we’ve made a few small changes including some work on drainage.

“Hopefully the weather will be good for us, and we’re hoping to get a big crowd out for such an awesome event.

“The club is pulling together very well: we learnt a lot from last year - if we can run the event as well as we did then, we’ll be very happy and it’s what we’re striving for.”

Make sure you check out Fuel TV tonight (Thursday 17 June) for the second instalment of the 2010 Rockstar Energy Drink MX National featuring the premier Pro Opens class at round one.

Yamaha Racing Ready for Raymond Terrace Mx

The Rockstar MX Nationals hits the half way point this weekend as the professional motocross tour hits Raymond Terrace, just north of Newcastle, for round five of the national championship. All three Yamaha teams are well positioned after the opening rounds and have riders leading or challenging for the championship lead in their respective classes.

CDR ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK YAMAHA
Reigning MX National champion Jay Marmont wrestled back the leaders red plate in the Pro Open division after the Toowoomba round and heads to a familiar circuit in Raymond Terrace looking to extend his lead.

Marmont currently leads the championship by 13 points over Tye Simmonds and thinks the 75 points on offer over the weekend will enable him to stretch the points' gap.

"It is a 24 race championship, but with the level of competition this year, every race matters. I have been consistent at the opening rounds, but I feel it's time to nail down some race wins and get some big points on the board," Marmont states.

"I have done plenty of laps around the Raymond Terrace track both as a junior and a professional and it holds good memories for me. My preparation has been good and I am good to go this weekend," he finishes.

Team mate Cheyne Boyd currently lies in sixth place in the championship standings, but comes off his best finish for the season at the Toowoomba round. Boyd is looking to continue his progress up the points' ladder and like Marmont is ready to take it to his competitors this weekend.

"The middle of the season is where championships are won and lost. With each round I have been getting better and the results have improved, so I expect that to continue this weekend. I am chasing race wins and a podium finish to get myself right back in the championship hunt," Boyd offers.

SERCO YAMAHA
The team of Kirk Gibbs and Ford Dale has proved to be as fast as anyone on the track in the Pro Lites class for 2010. Both riders have speed to burn and it has been a common sight at MX National events this year to see the team mates freight training at the front of the pack.

For Kirk Gibbs, the Raymond Terrace circuit has fond memories as it was the venue for his first ever professional round win taking a 1-1 finish in 2008. Gibbs is currently second in the Pro Lites and would like nothing more than to repeat his 2008 performance thrust himself towards the top step of the podium.

"I am a huge fan of the Raymond Terrace track. I like the hard pack surface, the ruts the track forms and the layout really suits my style. I have put in a couple of good weeks on the training track and feel confident heading into this weekend."

For Ford Dale, currently fifth in the standings, it's all about winning motos. Dale was easily the fasted rider at the previous round, only a crash in moto two stopped him from taking the round win, so he is out for redemption and a big point' haul.

"I have just been following my routine since the last round and feel great on the bike. The team has made a few gains with the bike in testing and we expect to put that to the test this weekend. I just need to stay focused on the track and the results will come."

YAMALUBE /GYTR/ ROCKSTAR YAMAHA
Yamaha's Under 19 team found some form at the previous round with Harley Quinlan taking second place in the Under 19 class. Ross Beaton also put in spirited rides to finish in fifth for the round. Both riders have taken plenty of confidence from the event and look to put it into practice this weekend at Raymond Terrace.

"My arm is back to 100% and I feel my racing is getting back where it needs to be. I have done a couple of local races in Queensland since the last race and feel better on the bike with every ride. The team has also made some changes to my suspension and we have the bike working exactly how I want it," Quinlan said.

Round five of the Rockstar MX Nationals roars to life this Sunday morning at 8.30am. For more information on the Rockstar MX Nationals, visit www.mxnationals.com.au
